Title: MT Contract Position, Long-Term Care, Vancouver, 11 hrs/wk, $51.40/h

Location: Vancouver BC (Broadway Lodge, 1377 Lamey’s Mill Road, Vancouver)

Types of sessions: Individuals or groups or both: Both

What Resources and instruments (including guitar) are on site?: Digital piano, acoustic piano, portable keyboard (61 keys), tone chimes, hand drums, and some rhythm instruments available. MT would have to bring their own guitar.

Number of hours per week: 11 hours: 5 confirmed hours + 6 grant-based hours. The grant-based hours are guaranteed for 6 hours until the end of 2024, after which they may be subject to slight adjustments annually based on the grant amount.

Wage: $51.40 per hour plus GST if applicable.

Overview of the Site/Facility

Broadway Lodge is a 114-bed complex care home located in beautiful south False Creek in Vancouver. We are closely affiliated with the Residences for Independent Living Society (RILS, also in False Creek and Steveston). The candidate must have compassion for, and a genuine interest in, working with the elderly, disabled adults and those approaching the end of life. Music Therapy is part of our Lifestyles and Therapeutic Services (LTS) department. As the Music Therapist, you will work closely with the recreation workers and chaplain to provide meaningful programs that benefit the overall quality of life for our seniors.

QualificationsEducation, Training & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited educational institution. Recent, related experience in Music Therapy in a complex care residential, palliative or dementia setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Job Summary / Requirements

  • Stay updated on music therapy advancements
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of assessing residents and designing individual and group music therapy programs.
  • Proficient in playing at least two musical instruments (piano and guitar) and singing.
  • Familiarity with a variety of musical instruments and related equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, initiative, and independent judgment.

Additional Requirements

  • The Music Therapist must be a member of the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT) and eligible to submit certificates for Professional Liability Insurance and WorkSafeBC Personal Optional Protection Insurance.
  • Full COVID 19 vaccination
