Recorded Workshops 2019 – 2020
When possible, MTABC workshops are recorded and uploaded here for members to view in their own time. Accompanying documents that were available at the workshop will also be available here by download, and we suggest that you print the documents and refer to them during your viewing. Although this is an MTABC continuing education workshop, MTABC issues CE certificates for those who attend in person.
We will not be issuing CE certificates for anyone viewing the video, as we have no way of verifying a member’s participation. However, viewing these videos still can count for CE credit with CAMT by listing the activity, date and time on your CE form when you renew your membership.

Music Therapy and Autism

Workshop description
Esther will share her wealth of knowledge and experience working in the field of Autism, as an internationally recognized music therapist. She will present on considerations for practice for music therapists (and other allied health and education professionals) in 2020. This workshop will cover philosophy and approach, modalities, behavior management strategies, and offer four hands-on music-based interventions that are applicable to music therapists, and others.
Presenter’sBio
Esther’s specialization since 1996 has been in the field of Autism- targeting early intervention. She enjoyed 14 wonderful years on faculty at Capilano University, teaching in the Bachelor of Music Therapy Program. She frequently presents at conferences and holds workshops for universities, local agencies and abroad. Esther completed Dr. Diane Austin’s (Music Psychotherapy Center, NY) first international distance training program in Advanced Vocal Psychotherapy. Her publication in the book: Voicework in Music Therapy (Jessica Kingsley Publishers), focuses on her innovative method of Vocal-Led Relaxation for Children with Autism. Esther launched the first cloud music therapy curriculum: MITM (Meet in the Music) for music therapy practices, as part of an electronic therapy records system: UnitusTI, by Mundo Pato. In 2017, Esther was awarded an Iconic Women Creating a Better World for All Award from the Women’s Economic Forum, in New Delhi, India.
This event is included in the continuing education program for Members of the Music Therapy Association of British Columbia.

Her publication in the book: Voicework in Music Therapy (Jessica Kingsley Publishers), focuses on her innovative method of Vocal-Led Relaxation for Children with Autism. Esther created Meet In The Music (MITM) music therapy curriculum for children with autism, which is utilized by music therapists throughout the United States and Canada. Esther is Executive Director of ET Music Therapy in Vancouver, British Columbia, where the team serve over 90 families in two studio locations, in schools, and in home, implementing the MITM program. In 2016, Esther was honored to receive an Iconic Women Creating a Better World For All award, presented by the Women Economic Forum in New Delhi, India.

MTABC CE Autism Workshop- Presentation
Music and Sign Language
Presenter: Kim Brown

Workshop description:
Kim Brown has been teaching ASL for many years and has put together a wonderful fun program using sign language in songs. She will be teaching the group 16 songs, ranging from simple, moderate to more difficult. The workshop will include songs for Music therapists working with both Children, adults and seniors.
Presenter’sBio
Kim has had the privilege of working with children and families for over 25 years. She has her ECE/special needs and a BA in psychology. In addition, she teaches a variety of American Sign Language courses designed for childcare providers, as well as facilitating positive parenting Programs, supported child development and para-scuba diving programs.
