Summary

We acknowledge that Providence Health Care & the new St. Paul’s Hospital site is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

 

Under the direction of the Professional Practice Leader, Music Therapy the Music Therapist uses music as the primary modality to assess and treat patients and serves as a resource to rehabilitation staff, particularly in Extended Care, and to the interdisciplinary team. Performs related educational and assigned administrative duties.

 

This is a temporary part time (15 hrs per week) role until September 2026.

What You Bring

Education, Training and Experience
Baccalaureate degree from recognized Music Therapy Program and one (1) year of recent related experience in an extended care setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT).

What We Offer

3.1. Plans, organizes, implements, modifies and evaluates music therapy programs designed to improve or maintain residents’ level of physical, mental, emotional and social functioning.

3.2. Provides music therapy assessments and treatments using recognized music therapy techniques and practices. Consults with members of the interdisciplinary team to select and/or recommend appropriate music therapy programs according to needs and capabilities of residents and coordinates music therapy and other therapeutic activities.

3.3. Records, maintains and updates resident records including assessment, treatment and statistical data in keeping with departmental and facility policies.

3.4. Participates in the quality assurance activities of the Music Therapy Department by providing input to the Professional Practice Leader regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of written procedures and standards, development of assessment forms and resident materials, and program descriptions for the assigned service areas.

3.5. Maintains and updates inventory of musical equipment and materials ensuring safe and appropriate use. Identifies and makes recommendations to the Professional Practice Leader regarding the purchase, general maintenance and repair of musical equipment and related supplies.

3.6. Participates in interdisciplinary care conferences as required to provide information regarding patient/resident status.

3.7. Maintains knowledge of current developments in music therapy by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals and participating in approved educational programs.

3.8. Participates in the orientation of other staff, students and volunteers and by providing inservices as required.

3.9. Participates in the music therapy student fieldwork program by providing supervision and instruction as required.

3.10. Attends and contributes to regularly scheduled music therapy council meetings as designated.

3.11. Participates in and supports education and research activities.

3.12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
