Music Therapy using guitar

Music Therapy at a Glance

Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) use music to meet a wide variety of needs for their clients. Within a supportive therapeutic relationship, music can support physical, psychological, and neurological health. Music can motivate us to learn, to express ourselves, and to explore our potential.

As defined by the Canadian Association of Music Therapy (CAMT, September 2020), music therapy is a discipline in which Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Music therapists use music safely and ethically to address human needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social, and spiritual domains.
