Karly Goss BMT, MT-BC, MTA, Hope Music Therapy
My name is Karly Goss. I graduated with a Music Therapy degree from Capilano University in 2020. Shortly thereafter, founding ‘Hope Music Therapy’ in Edmonton, Alberta and leading virtual music therapy sessions during our 3+ year pandemic. As many of you are familiar, adapting and learning to create effective and engaging music therapy experiences online had and still has its challenges, but there was definitely a niche for it, and it helped us grow. Hope Music Therapy now serves a variety of sites and populations within Edmonton and surrounding areas including, early child development centres, hospice care facilities, long-term care facilities and in-home sessions.
In January 2021, I began my role as the full-time Music Therapist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. Not wanting to lose the momentum Hope Music Therapy had gained, I hired a contract-worker to continue on with our work in the community, while also leading weekend sessions when possible. As Hope Music Therapy ebbs and flows, it has been rewarding to experience and see it withstand the shifting times we are living in. Our social media platform is possibly the number one reason why we are still viable, and I can’t wait to tell you how and why!
