To register follow this link:
When: April 15th at 7:00pm
Where: Zoom
Topic: Tough Conversations – Counselling Skills with Sara Pun, MEd, MMT, CCC, RCC, MTA

About the workshop:
This workshop is a refresher course about verbal counselling skills. We will review some basics of verbal counselling and how that relates to our work as a music therapist. Some of the basics will include how to communicate empathy, reflection, reframe, and asking thoughtful questions. We will also explore some models of therapy including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music. This workshop will include an interactive Q&A and a practice session where you can try your verbal microskills in pairs. Whether you are a seasoned or new music therapist, this workshop is designed to stimulate ideas and discussions about how to balance our practice with meaningful music and conversation.

About the presenter:
Sara Pun is a Registered Provisional Psychologist in Alberta, a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia, a Canadian Certified Counsellor, and a Certified Music Therapist and supervisor. Sara has two master’s degrees in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University. Her education represents the pairing of two allied and complementary approaches in counselling and the expressive arts. Sara works from a growth mindset that is integrative, emotion-focused, strengths-based, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed.
Sara plays the piano, guitar, clarinet, Balinese gamelan, Japanese Taiko drums, and sings. She is fascinated with travel and music from different cultures. Sara has completed additional training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals and the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music Level 2. Sara’s goal is to integrate her psychology and music therapy background into an integrated clinical practice. In her spare time, you can find Sara hiking, skiing, yoga-ing, and playing with her two adorable rabbits. Sara is also the associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Music Therapy.
