Position Overview: PT 1hr group/week. As a Contract Music Therapist, you will be responsible for leading mixed-ability groups of children, including those who are non-verbal and low functioning. Each group is 30min in duration and you’ll be facilitating 2 groups. You will create and implement music therapy sessions that promote group engagement, participation, and individual growth. Your role will involve tailoring interventions to address specific needs such as self-expression, social skills development, communication enhancement, and spiritual growth, among others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and lead music therapy sessions for children with diverse abilities.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages self-expression and social interaction.
  • Implement strategies to promote musical engagement and skill development.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs of non-verbal and low-functioning children.
  • Balance group dynamics and ensure all participants are actively involved and supported.
  • Collaborate with caregivers and other professionals to support holistic development.
  • Chart about the group and every 3-4 months provide a progress report.


  • Certified Music Therapist (MTA designation preferred).
  • Experience working independently and leading music therapy sessions for children.
  • Proven ability to work with mixed-ability groups, including non-verbal and low-functioning individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and caregivers.
  • Passion for using music as a therapeutic tool to enhance emotional, cognitive, and social well-being.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the unique needs of each child and group.

Time: 10:30-11:30am
Remuneration: $70 for the 1 hr music therapy sessions + $20 for travel.
Start date: Mid may to end of June. Will start again come Sept 2024.
