*Job Summary:
Pacticia is looking for an MTA/NMT for her son Michael. Please read on….
My son Michael was in Grade 12 at Sir Winston Churchill and just celebrated his 17th Birthday at the time of his MVA in which he was a passenger in the front seat. Four friends had gone on a camping trip to Whistler during Spring Break. On the way home the car they were in hydro foiled off the road at Furry Creek and landed upside down in Furry Creek. Michael’s seat belt had gone through his intestine, and it was reported that he was underwater from anywhere between 15 to 22 minutes. He truly is miraculous that he survived.
He was airlifted to the VGH and I got the phone call that no parent wants to receive. The situation was fragile and after a long 6 mos Michael was transferred to SunnyHill and from SunnyHill he was transferred to GFStrong and then they asked for me to bring him home. We lived in a heritage house in Marpole which was not suitable for Michael’s wheel chair and I had property in West Vancouver with a cottage which we rented out so I had an architect design a home which would be ideal for Michael and his two brothers and myself.
We moved into our new home at 2596 Lawson Ave, West Vancouver in 1996 which has a ground floor suite for Michael as he required 24/7 care. His physio had him walking with a walker his OT had him doing various activities his speech therapist and nutritionist and many others worked with Michael. When Covid came it was a difficult time because Michael only works well one on one. I suffered post covid syndrome and Michael has not received the therapy he needs and deserves.
Michael has never had NMT or any music therapy at all. Michael loves music and was about the Grade 8 level of piano. He does have a piano here that he just tinkers on. In school Michael skipped Grade 2 was in the French immersion programme in high school he was in the baccalaureate programme and was #1 in Canada in a math competition receiving letters of congratulations from the premiere and the prime minister. Today I am so thankful and blessed to hear Michael say I love you Mom. Mind you he has mainly good days but some not so good. His two major caregivers have been with Michael 31 years, Warren and Charry who are both Filipino RNs with Charry recently retiring – his physio Carlos was with Michael 17 Years. Michael understands everything but is slow to express himself.
I thank you for your kind response and I hope that I answered some of your inquiries and that you are able to provide further input. If you need further information and would like to call my number is 604-925-5700
Gratefully
